We love pizza night…the kids LIVE for pizza night! Our friends never mind the invite either
Last night was THE night! My dough recipe makes it SO easy to crank out as many crusts as you have individual tastes, and let’s face it….everyone loves to design their very own pizza. I believe everyone in my house likes a different kind.
I use this basic dough recipe for pizza, calzones and garlic breadsticks. It can also be used to hold fruit fillings or made into dessert pizza. Kids love to be a part of making the dough. Let your little ones get covered in flour and knead away…it’s the perfect way to integrate them into the kitchen.
Basic Dough Ingredients
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 package or 2 1/4 tsp yeast
1 cup very warm water
2 tablespoons olive oil

After your dough is ready…press it onto a round pizza pan and push up a slight crust edge, being careful not get too thin in the middle of the crust.
Apply your sauce and toppings as desired…let the kids go crazy! My youngest is stuck on cheese and olive, but the teens tend to experiment a little. Normally I end up “decorating ” as they tell me what they want. Them wanting me to decorate for them is a HUGE pat on the back in my world…I take the compliments any way I can get them.
Last night they decided on BBQ Chicken and Taco pizza. I have one little gadget that I LOVE for making beautiful pizzas. THE PLASTIC SQUIRT BOTTLE… Ohh how I love these little things!
For the chicken pizza…I use a thin coating of bbq sauce in lieu of the pizza sauce, sprinkle mozzarella on top, lay thin sliced red onion over the cheese, adorn the cheese with chicken meat from a rotisserie chicken, then sprinkle grated cheddar over the whole SHEBANG! With my handy-dandy squirt bottles, I run a quick drizzle of balsamic over the top, then finish off with a spiral of extra bbq sauce. WALLA
To make the taco pizza…I mix equal parts of pizza sauce and salsa and spread over the crust, sprinkle on mozzarella cheese, top with browned hamburger meat that has been seasoned with taco seasoning, add sliced olive and diced red onion, sprinkle on just a pinch of red pepper flakes, then finish with cheddar cheese. After the pizza cooks…more toppings are added.
Each pizza is baked at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. I rotate the pan halfway through the cooking time.
When the bbq chicken pizza has come out of the oven, I add another fresh spiral of bbq sauce…thats what my son likes and more is better
To finish the taco pizza…add a generous amount of chopped iceberg lettuce and top with spirals of sour cream! YUM
If you are like me…you begin to feel like your pulling out your six shooters to decorate the pizzas. I begin to get a little crazy with the bottles. I feel like I’m a high-priced artist and everyone is watching me create a masterpiece. That’s the land I live in… right there with Bob Ross
