Cleaver Contest 11 and Giveaway….

Who doesn’t love comfort food?

I’m sure the mere mention of this culinary category has visions of biscuits, taters, and red eye gravy, dancing in your head. These meals are like a hug and a warm blanket for your belly, with a side order of sweet tea!

It didn’t take me long to figure out the prize on this contest. Who knows comfort food better than Ree Drummond (The Pioneer Woman)? What an inspiration this woman is….

A food blogger, a wife, a mother, a photographer, a homeschooler, a business woman……Truly an amazing lady!

So here it is…her SECOND cookbook (P.S. if you don’t have her FIRST cookbook, stop what you’re doing and go buy it)

Now for the rules……

Leave a comment describing a “comfort food” meal that YOU make. It doesn’t have to be swimmin’ in gravy, just something that makes you pop the button on your favorite pair of jeans and sit a spell. Something that makes you want to hibernate :)

I will randomly select a winner on March 31st.

There are a couple of ways to make sure you see the winning announcement….how bad would that be to win and never know??

1.) Follow me on facebook for access to all the posts, conversation, and news.

2.) Sign up to follow my website via email and never miss another announcement or recipe. All delivered neatly to your inbox!

  3. Marsha Konken

Please enter me in the contest.
My favorite comfort food is roast beef with potatoes and carrots in the crockpot. It cooks all day long and smells heavenly. Then the taste….it’s over the top!

  4. Patty Strickler

My comfort food is homemade Vegetable soup, homemade bread for grilled cheese

  5. Diane Strouss

My comfort food is brown beans cooked with a ham hock, fried potatoes and a slice of fried ham. Yum-m-m-m! Oh, and don’t forget the cornbread, butter and honey.

  6. Terri Betz

I love contests! My comfort food is hot fudge sundaes, with homemade fudge sauce and James’ ground roasted, unsalted peanuts on vanilla ice cream! So good, but then it’s nap time! ;/) Thanks!

  7. Dana Shope

My comfort food would have to be my chicken and dumpling.

  8. Ok Landshsrk

My “comfort food” can vary. It usually involves lots of carbs, gooey cheese, and ALWAYS nostalgia! It’s homemade mac & cheese, gooey grilled cheese supreme (lots of veggies) & tomato soup, or grilled veggie lasagna with lots of gooey cheese. I’m able to eat great food, revisit great memories, and transport myself with a few simple ingredients. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some cheese to eat with some carbs!

Being from the midwest, one of our favorite ‘comfort meals’ is meatloaf, mashed potatoes and buttered corn. The vegtable has to be corn, not green beans or peas…corn! With butter! Not only comforting, but a tummy filler that brings the family to the table quickly! <3

  10. Jeannean

I have lots of favorite comfort foods but the one I use to go to when I was living far from home and freezing in the winter was shrimp and grits. It just brought back memories of summer fun on the river at my grandparents house.

  11. My mom made spaghetti when I was a kid with Creamettes pasta calld redi-cut or kettle-cut. It’s like macaroni but smaller around. When I can’t find it I use the macaroni from a box of mac n’ cheese. Fry hamburger & onion together. Mix the burger, cooked macaroni & Campbell tomato soup. I didn’t know what real spaghetti was til I was about 10 yrs old

  12. Well now, you may think this is a little odd, but my comfort food is breakfast. A small bowl of Cream of Wheat with butter and a little brown sugar. On the side, a perfectly cooked egg in a well where the yolk is nice and runny. They were the first things I learned to cook (along with fried bologna) and when my grandpop visited we would eat it together in the morning.

  13. My Mom has been gone only a short time, but I still serve fried chicken (just flour, salt and pepper dredge), with mashed potatoes and corn. I make country milk gravy with some of drippings from frying the chicken. I use milk not water or broth for the liquid. I do bump up the chicken flavor by adding some chicken flavoring. This is a meal my Mom would serve every Sunday.

  14. Vicki

I love mashed potatoes or stuffing with gravy. I have a favorite crockpot recipe that I love to make with chicken breasts, stuffing and cream of chicken soup that is at the top of my list. Yum!

  15. Crystal Sharp

My comfort food is swimming if gravy! lol! My favorite comfort meal that I make is scrambled eggs, crispy bacon or ham, fluffy biscuits, hashbrowns, smooth pepper gravy, and a tall glass of milk. It is one of those meals that the entire family loves to eat and we just all go into a nice food coma afterwards.

  16. Bonnie

I found a recipe for a Philly-style German buttercake. It takes just like one my grandparents would buy on special occasions and as requested for my birthday. Love the cake and the memories it brings back!

  17. O my goodness! My comfort meal would have to be chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and cream gravy, pinto beans like my mother used to make, a tossed salad, fried okra and some homemade yeast rolls with butter dripping! And don’t forget hot apple or cherry cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream!!

  18. Julie H

Schoeffnodle (a German dough, potatoe and cream dish- yumm), sausages and homemade applesauce!

  19. Cheryl Bone

The go to dish when I need comfort is one of two: first one is milk toast where you butter the toast, tear it in pieces, salt it and pour scalded milk over the top, has to be white bread! The other one is macaroni cooked in tomato juice or with stewed tomatoes, half tsp of sugar. My best friend, Jerry, and I eat the mac when anything goes wrong and it fixes it! Don’t knock them until you try them.

  20. Jeni

Cheese Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, fried greenbeans (bacon fried until almost crisp drain some of the grease then put well drained beans in the grease cook slow until done; no healthy BUT so good! My Aunt taught me to make this) with a BIG glass of cold milk!

  21. Jennifer Barnes

Normally my fave comfort food is anything from my mother or grandmother who have been gone for years…. Candied carrots, homemade chicken pot pie, or even a simple icecream with milk poured over the way my grandmother fixed when I had a sore throat! Lately my boyfriends fave comfort food is also mine. Fresh huge pot of old fashioned 5 ingredient goulash…. Made 4 quarts yesterday! Thank you for the chance to win

  37. Susan M.

My comfort food is my meatloaf, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie for dessert. The funny thing is that when my husband and I were dating he decided to see if I could cook (I found this out MUCH later!) and asked me to cook him a meal. I made meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, tossed salad and a cherry pie. He proposed. haha I later teased him that perhaps that was the ONLY meal I knew how to make. ;)

  38. My comfort food is a PB & J on the cheapest white sandwich bread, using grape jelly and an over-the-top helping of creamy peanut butter.

  39. Nancy Narma

There is a tie with my favorite comfort foods..it would be between Meatloaf & scalloped potatoes..and Beef stew and homemade biscuits.
Either avenue..who could ask for anything more..except an extention on the waistband of my jeans and hopefully winning this contest. :-)
    Nancy Narma

  40. Oooh, reading all of these earlier entries make me hungry!
My favorite comfort food is soup.
I love make soup (and I’m talking about the soups you can eat as a meal, where the spoon stands up in the bowl!). There’s nothing better on a cold (winters) day, to curl up with a bowl of hot steaming soup!
One of my favorites is chicken noodle soup. I use chicken legs, and let then simmer for a couple of hours (along with some unions and herbs), with a little bit of help of some stock. Take them out, put in as many vegetables that will fit in the pan (so, a LOT!), pick the meat of the legs (it will just fall off after all that cooking!) put the meat back in the pan and cook some noodles. I usually cook the noodles in a separate pan, because I make sooo much soup we don’t finish it in one go!
It’s one of those meals that you can have all you need in the freezer and cupboard, so whenever I want some comfort food, I can just whip it up!
    Good luck to everyone!
And thank you for this opportunity!

    Sarah (the Dutch one)
